"A dog is "der Hund"; a woman is "die Frau"; a horse is "das Pferd"; now you put that dog in the genitive case, and is he the same dog he was before? No, sir; he is "des Hundes"; put him in the dative case and what is he? Why, he is "dem Hund." Now you snatch him into the accusative case and how is it with him? Why, he is "den Hunden." But suppose he happens to be twins and you have to pluralize him- what then? Why, they'll swat that twin dog around through the 4 cases until he'll think he's an entire international dog-show all in is own person. I don't like dogs, but I wouldn't treat a dog like that--I wouldn't even treat a borrowed dog that way. Well, it's just the same with a cat. They start her in at the nominative singular in good health and fair to look upon, and they sweat her through all the 4 cases and the 16 the's and when she limps out through the accusative plural you wouldn't recognize her for the same being. Yes, sir, once the German language gets hold of a cat, it's goodbye cat. That's about the amount of it."

Mark Twain's Notebook

I could not have said it better. The German cases are a formidable obstacle for every German student.

The German Cases class is a 10-week-program that teaches you everything case related. It consists of 12 hours of prerecorded lessons as well as several overview charts and exercise PDFs. It contains a theoretical part where you will learn all the rules regarding the four German cases. Afterward, you will get a chance to practice your newly acquired knowledge. We will guide you through several exercises so you can be sure you understand the rules through their application.

The class is entirely in English (no full immersion here!) and for all levels. You do not need to be fluent to take it. In fact, I recommend taking this class very early since the four cases are at the very core of German grammar.

This course will explain all there is to know about cases, so you will not have to say goodbye to the cat.

Viel Spaß!

Hi, I’m Esther.

I was born and raised in Berlin, Germany. In 2016, I moved to DC. I love love, love my mother tongue. Although German is somewhat tricky, it also is such a beautiful language, and I would love to help you to be able to speak it. I have been a German teacher for over 16 years and have extensive teaching experience with more than 1,000 hours. In 2019 and 2020, Wyzant ranked me a Top 10 % Tutor. I also taught several law classes while in law school. Aside from being an educator, and an attorney, I am a systemic coach as well. Overall, I enjoy helping people reach their full potential.

I have not only practical experience teaching German as a foreign language, but also profound knowledge of teaching methods to help you learn the best way possible which I have applied to this class.

I am looking forward to working with you!
